What is Reiki

Defintion

Reiki is a form of energy healing that originated in Japan in the early 20th century. It involves the gentle laying of hands on or near the body to balance and harmonize the energy within the body. The word Reiki is derived from the Japanese words "rei" (meaning universal) and "ki" (meaning life force energy).

During a Reiki healing session, the practitioner channels this life force energy through their hands to the recipient, who lies down or sits comfortably with their clothes on. The recipient may feel sensations such as warmth, tingling, or pulsing, and may experience a deep sense of relaxation and well-being.

Reiki is based on the belief that illness and disease are caused by imbalances or blockages in the flow of energy within the body. By restoring the flow of energy, Reiki can help to promote physical, mental, and emotional healing and well-being.

Overall, Reiki healing can be a powerful tool. It is a gentle and non-invasive form of energy healing that can complement and enhance traditional medical treatments.

  • The practice of Reiki was brought to the West by a Japanese-American woman named Hawayo Takata in the 1930s.

  • Reiki has since spread around the world and has become a popular form of complementary and alternative medicine.

The Five Reiki Principles are:

Just for today, I will not be angry.

Just for today, I will not worry.

Just for today, I will be grateful.

Just for today, I will do my work honestly.

Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing.
